THE LOST WAYS

Once termed as a “HEAVEN ON EARTH” is again facing the flames of heavy fire. This time not with the guns or any other ammunition but with the ‘pathars’ and ‘lathis’. The valley is burning again and burning quite vigorously for the past two months or so. This is probably the most anguished protest by the separatists and civilians in the recent times
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, would have never thought in his darest of his dreams that he will face such a strong animosity against him, in a short span of 18 months as a Chief Minister.

Death of a person named Tuffail Muttu due to police firing during a small protest by the civilians was enough for the separatists and the others to jump into the streets of Srinagar. Some insensitive comments from the top officials of the government worked as “ghee” in the “aag”.

Highly insensitive state, Jammu and Kashmir where almost 50% of the total population of 1.10 crores , is under the age of 19 years and where only 12 lakhs people are employed must be feeling socially and economically boycotted by the government and this is how they are showing their frustration and anger against the State and Central Government..
Omar Abdullah is actually finding it difficult to find a solution to stop these protests and also to win the hearts of these people. He was elected by the people of Jammu and Kashmir as a fresh change but he hardly did anything good for them as he was too busy in giving clarification and clearing his name in the alleged case of Shopian. But what made it more difficult for him was his inability to reach to people of Jammu and Kashmir immediately after the death of Mattu and assuring them of proper action. The responsibility was put on to his colleagues which damaged his image even more and worsened the situation. But one must agree that these kinds of protests are the part of the Kashmir’s history. This is more of their anger and frustration towards the Indian Government who actually did nothing really to make them believe that they are very much part of India and have all the rights to participate in Indian democracy as the other Indians have. From the very first Prime Minister of India Pt. Nehru to the Dr. Manmohan Singh, they have failed to reach out to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and to understand their problems that they have faced and are still facing. Indian Government really need to take them into their confidence, so that the common people of the state feel secured because nobody can grow under the shed of fear and insecurity.
As of now, what Omar Abdullah and Indian Government needs to do is to have fresh talks with the separatists because we all have to agree that there are people whose ambitions and goals have been represented by these people. So we cannot neglect them. Try to cut down the army in the residential areas of Jammu and Kashmir. And most importantly they must try to reach out to the people and fulfill their needs, so that they don’t feel secluded from India: socially and economically. Indian Government needs to build a bridge between Srinagar and New Delhi for the common people and try to formulate economic policies which would help them to overcome their economic barriers. For Omar Abdullah, who had his share of controversies in his kitty in a short span, which would definitely make him a stronger person. He needs to show to the world and his opposition that he is the best suited man that the people of Jammu and Kashmir can elect for this job and with enough will and vision, he can do wonders with this state too so that the people of Jammu and Kashmir can also dream big and live without any fear..

THE ROAD IS DIFFICULT AHEAD BUT DEFINITELY NOT IMPOSSIBLE…
